Tsavo East is one of Kenya’s oldest and largest national parks: wide, dry plains cut by the Galana River and the long Yatta Plateau lava ridge. Together with Tsavo West it forms one of the biggest protected areas in Africa, so game drives feel genuinely wild and uncrowded.
The park is famous for its “red elephants”, which dust themselves in the park’s red earth. Lions, buffalo, giraffe and many antelope species are seen along the rivers, and the park is an easy safari from Mombasa and the Kenyan coast.
