Lamu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlements in East Africa. There are almost no cars: people get around on foot, by donkey and by dhow, and life moves at the pace of the tides.
Wander carved doorways and narrow lanes, sail at sunset on a traditional dhow, and relax on the long beach at Shela. Lamu is reached by a short flight from Nairobi or Mombasa.
